    The Director of International Programs and Study Abroad is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of UTEP’s global education agenda.  This includes the recruitment and success of international students and facilitating student mobility through study abroad experiences (e.g., semester/year long, faculty-led programs).  The Director is responsible for oversight of programs and initiatives that promote global citizenship and help students better relate to the world around them, appreciate personal and cultural differences, build professional skills through internships and research, and understand and apply their connection to the global community as well as support international students in meeting their educational goals at the university In order to be successful, the Director will need to work collaboratively with the Office of the Provost, College/School Deans, the Division of Student Affairs, Enrollment Services and many more offices throughout the University.

    Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:

    Global Partnerships:

    ·       Raise UTEP’s international educational profile by collaborating with the Provost’s Office, Colleges/Schools, Departments, Faculty, and Staff to foster partnerships between UTEP and institutions of higher education, consortiums, and appropriate global agencies that support study abroad/study away experiences.

    ·       Assess effectiveness and impact of global initiatives and recruitment strategies and determine untapped markets and/or experiences that would benefit students studying or conducting research at UTEP and those who desire to study or work abroad.

    ·       In collaboration with the Associate Vice President, engage regularly with partners on and off-campus to market UTEP and increase the number of International students participating in degree-seeking programs at the institution or on-line, as well as participating in internships and research experiences.

    ·       Identify and pursue grants to support the development and maintenance of global education programs.

    Study Abroad, Exchange and Faculty-led Programs

    ·       Work collaboratively with faculty, departments, Colleges/Schools and administration including the Faculty Advisory Council for Study Abroad/Faculty-led Programs to assess, evaluate, prioritize, and develop study abroad/study away, high-impact, faculty led experiences, including research and service-learning experiences that align with The UTEP Edge.

    ·       Coordinate the effective implementation of UTEP policies and procedures regarding all aspects of the outgoing and incoming student administrative functions to include risk management and crisis response as well as students' registration for the period(s) they are at UTEP or abroad.

    ·       Coordinate the evaluation and assessment of current program offerings and the development of future UTEP initiatives that relate to the mission and vision of UTEP and the study abroad/study away program.

    International Student Recruitment:

    ·       In collaboration with Recruitment, Admissions, and College/School Deans, support undergraduate and graduate recruitment plans to increase international student enrollment, with an emphasis on enrollment of students from Mexico and other countries in Latin America.

    ·       Develop and implement training programs and initiatives for admission counselors, academic advisors, College/School staff, faculty, and others as deemed appropriate on how to effectively work with and support international students and their families.

    ·       Supervise the department’s administration and support of financial assistance programs such as the PASE program (Programa de Asistencia Estudiantil) that allows in-state tuition for Mexican nationals with demonstrated financial need, as well as scholarships available to International Students.

    Visa and Immigration Coordination and Oversight:

    ·       Serve as the PDSO (Principal Designated School Official) and RO (Responsible Officer), administering the Department of Homeland Security (DOH) SEVP program for the University to include compliance with federal reporting requirements for international students and exchange visitors using the required federal reporting software systems.

    ·       Serve as the primary resource for information regarding the interpretation and application of Department of Homeland Security, Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services, and Department of State regulations pertaining to international students and scholars.

    Student Advising, Support and Education:

    ·       Assist international students, scholars and those who have studied abroad in the adjustment and integration or reintegration into the UTEP community.

    ·       In collaboration with partners throughout campus, create and implement pre-arrival information and coordinate International Student/Scholar Orientation, on-going educational programs including CPT/OPT information sessions.

    ·       Oversee International Representatives who serve as educational liaisons to schools, local clubs, organizations and businesses.

    ·       Facilitate programs and activities that help all students better understand, appreciate, and relate to the world around them by expanding their cultural awareness and understanding of their connection to the global community and acquiring the skills necessary to be productive citizens in a global community.

    ·       Support the Global Scholars program, a program for students residing on-campus which strives to develop cultural competence through immersive living, co-curricular activities, and personal interaction with faculty, staff, and fellow residents.

    Supervision and Staff Development:

    ·       Directly/Indirectly supervise Assistant Directors, International Student and Scholar Advisors, Administrative Support team, Graduate Assistant, Peer Advisors, and Student Assistants.

    ·       Directly responsible for the oversight, training, and compliance related to all Designated School Officials (DSO’s) and Alternate Responsible Officers (ARO’s) and the professional development of those they supervise.

    Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and ability to learn and use institutional software systems.

    Compliance with all State and University policies.

    Other duties may be assigned.

    Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies, and applicable laws.

    Language:  Fluent in English, Fluent in Spanish preferred

    Minimum Experience required: Three years of proven experience in international affairs, international education and/or study abroad/student exchange with a demonstrated understanding of international student recruitment.  Three years of administrative experience with proven ability to plan strategically, develop innovative programs and services, measure impact, work with and manage a diverse staff, manage a budget and resources and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.  Minimum of two years of direct experience with federal and state regulations relevant to international students and scholars.  Proven ability to apply immigration rules and regulations. Ability to coordinate the functions required to address the needs of international programs with a diverse set of offices and programs.

    Preferred Experience: Experience in international affairs/education and recruitment specifically in Latin America. Three years administrative experience in an International Programs Office, or International Education Office, or comparable at a college/university, with a proven ability to plan strategically, manage a budget, and supervise staff.  Two plus years of direct experience with federal and state regulations relevant to international students and scholars; specifically SEVIS including recertification.     POSITION DESCRIPTION
    Provide meaningful programs and initiatives for students and their families with the transition into and through Lamar University. These initiatives will include new student and parent orientation, parent and family programs, and leadership development programs. The Assistant Director has direct reporting responsibility to the Director of New Student and Leadership Programs.

    The Assistant Director for New Student & Leadership Programs responsibilities include:
    1.    Provide support to the Director of New Student & Leadership Programs in all matters related to orientation, week of welcome, and year round orientation initiatives for first-year and transfer students.
    2.    Hire, train and supervise the 30- 36 Student Orientation Leaders and 2-4 Student Orientation Coordinators.
    3.    Create and deliver training program for Orientation Leaders and Orientation Coordinators.
    4.    Provide front-line supervision for each orientation program.
    5.    Coordinate a variety of parent and family programs, including Parent Association, Parent Weekends, Parent Receptions, Parent Association Newsletter, Parent Association website, and works closely with campus constituents in providing information and programming to parents and families.
    6.    Oversee the continuous development, implementation, and evaluation of fall and spring Week of Welcome program, marketing, execution and assessment. Will co-facilitate the Week of Welcome programs with staff in Setzer Student Center and Recreational Sports.
    7.    Will work with Recruitment and with Undergraduate Advisement in facilitating collaboration and communication for the delivery of the orientation program.
    8.    Assist the Director in the planning and implementation of New Student Convocation.
    9.    Serve as a key liaison between the university and families of current students.
    10. Prepare and maintain appropriate assessment, reports, and publications.
    11. Design and deliver leadership programming to students in consultation with the Director.
    12. Assist in leadership training opportunities, in-service workshops, and summer training to the Student Government Association.
    13. Assist in leadership training to students and student organizations in collaboration with Setzer Student Center.
    14. Use web-based tools for marketing, web design, orientation records, and assessment.
    15. Assist the Division of Student Engagement with sponsored events such as Homecoming, Cardinal Previews, Leadership Conferences, Toast to Leadership Banquet, Tailgate, and Big Red Mania.
    16. Meet weekly with the Director of New Student & Leadership Programs, and attend regularly scheduled departmental meetings.
    17. Participate on departmental, divisional, and university committees and task forces.
    18. Ability to work a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends as needed.

    Required Qualifications:
    1.     A Master’s degree in student development, counseling, student affairs, or related field from an accredited University is required.
    2.     1 year of experience in orientation, new student programs or student activities.
    3.     1 year of experience working with paraprofessional student staff members.
    4.     Able to use social media and web- based tools for marketing, web design, orientation registration and assessment practices for programs.
    5.     Must meet the physical requirements of the position, which will include the ability to move and possible lift up to 30 lbs.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    1.     Able to be detailed orientated with follow through on program planning and implementation on small and large-scale programs.
    2.     Able to develop and deliver training and support to orientation leader staff members that will engage new students and families in a high energy, student led orientation experience to the University.

    Purpose: Conduct investigations of alleged student misconduct and specifically Title IX complaints, which include but are not limited to allegations of sexual assault, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, interpersonal violence, stalking and sex discrimination. 

    Essential Functions: Investigate cases of alleged student misconduct - specifically Title IX related matters, which includes meeting with individual students and witnesses, gathering and assessing evidence, determining credibility, and writing investigative reports regarding the findings of the investigation. Interpret University policies and participate in the implementation of the University Title IX investigatory and disciplinary processes for students. Assist with various special assignments within Title IX Training and Investigations, the Dean of Students Office and the Division of Student Affairs.
